The unique ‘Life of the Barents Sea’ programme

Проведение курса Underwater Naturalist на Белом море image Наблюдение
  • At least two lectures, one devoted to Barents Sea biology, the other to the King crab, introduced from the Far East. You will learn why tropical seas are so different from Arctic ones, what changed with the appearance of the King crab, why there are so many fish in the cold water, why the crabs have become so numerous, and much more.
  • Observation of animals in their natural underwater environment. Marine biologists will reveal secrets of the underwater world. If you think there is no life in the Barents Sea except for crabs and whales, educational dives with experienced guides will show you this is not true. If you have an underwater camera or video camera, our experts will help you to create your own collection of portraits or video clips of the animals of the Barents Sea.
  • You will discover a miniature world as you view tiny creatures magnified almost 100 times under a microscope. You will be able to find out what young fish eat, how a crab’s eyes are constructed, what creatures inhabit the seaweed, and what kind of legs sea urchins have.
  • We offer a PADI Underwater Naturalist Specialty course –for certified divers! There is also a beginner’s PADI Underwater Naturalist course + lectures by marine biologists and observation of animals underwater and under the microscope.

The programme is supplemented with video clips shot in the natural environment of the Barents Sea over several years. These give you the opportunity to see underwater fauna and flora, and the expert commentary teaches you about the animals’ behaviour. The collection of films is unique; often, you can watch things you won’t always see over several dives.

Biological observations are conducted on the Kartesh every year. Your conscientious attitude to the underwater world and your powers of observation will help all of us learn more about it and to see the harmony of life in the sea.

The ‘Life of the Barents Sea’ programme is for those interested in the world around us. Not only will you become acquainted with inhabitants of the harsh northern sea, you will also expand your horizons, learning about marine zoology, hydrology, ecology, hydrobiology and geology.
